- A minimum of two years of university-level study or comparable professional experience.
- Specialized knowledge in one or more domains, balanced with a generalist skill set; for instance, having deep front-end expertise while also understanding how a service processes an HTTP request at a high level.
- Proven understanding and practical experience in creating high-quality pull requests with comprehensive test coverage, and the ability to deliver projects with minimal errors.
- Competence in navigating and contributing to new, multilingual codebases.
- Strong written communication skills to articulate your work effectively to stakeholders, team members, and the wider Stripe organization.
- A robust foundational grasp of computer science principles, typically acquired through pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
- Some degree of programming experience and familiarity, gained from academic coursework or personal projects. Our primary tech stack includes Java, Ruby, JavaScript, Scala, and Go, but we believe strong fundamentals enable the quick adoption of new languages.
- Prior experience in collaborative settings such as internships, team projects, or open-source contributions, which demonstrates an ability to evaluate and incorporate feedback from mentors, peers, and stakeholders.
- The capacity to quickly understand and navigate unfamiliar systems by combining independent research with guidance from mentors and subject matter experts.
- Develop production-level software that creates a tangible impact for Stripe.
- Engage in the exchange of technical feedback through participation in code reviews and design discussions.
- Partner with fellow engineers and cross-functional teams to proactively gather and implement feedback.
- Accelerate your learning by asking insightful questions, collaborating efficiently with your manager and teammates, and clearly communicating your work status.
